Movie Review - Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge
First things first, this is the comedy that is not slapstick anyway with three good actors in a lead role. In reality all the three lead actors i.e. Paresh Rawal, Konkona Sen Sharma and Ajay Devgn have been honored with national awards. Those who find themselves bored of the recent slapstick comedies by Priyadarshan can buy a refuge in Ashwani Dhir directed Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge. The film will depend on a short story by way of a noted satirist called Sharad Joshi and attempts to take a look into the Indian values among people moving into metros.
The film begins for a light note with Puneet (Ajay Devgn) getting the role of a script writer for just a big banner in film industry, although his script is gibberish (pun intended). His life changes when he confronts with Lambodar Chachaji (Paresh Rawal) who says it will be a relative of Puneet. This un-invited guest gives trouble to Puneet brilliant wife Munmun (Konkona Sen Sharma) who is an enclosed designer. The family who had previously been longing for a guest is actually on back foot as this guest wakes up at the outset of the morning and gargles loudly and desires a meal that is the same as the whole family.
The first one half of the movie is hilarious, effortlessly three actors doing their work to perfection. Paresh Rawal as a guest who shows no symbol of leaving the household is in command of his character. The couple does everything possible to show the guest away but nothing works, not hiring a goon for the task. From here onwards, the movie is a lesson on moral values for that young couple. This happens to be a weak link during this tale as the director seems confused- whether or not to give a lesson or perhaps a dose of comedy. The switch happens rather instantly and look convincing enough. The film might have been edited further to be sure it has been adapted from the short story, so limiting the gap would have been a good idea here.
There are some really funny scenes here with the director including a hilarious Bhajan which includes the tune of Beedi Jalaile. The very first half has some nice moments honest safe music downloads before giving within emotional melodrama in the partner. The dialogues are not efficient enough for the ensemble cast. The director gives his best lawn mowers of the initial stages itself and have enough battery within the second half. The final monologue by Puneet on valuing guests and elders stands apart.

The film can be watched for just a nuanced performance by Paresh Rawal being an unwanted guest. He or she is a complete powerhouse and plays his character with utmost sincerity and conviction. His mannerisms undoubtedly are a treat to watch with an apt reaction to them by Konkona and Ajay. It is a good movie but tend to have been better.
